Cancelled: Overnight Outing

The September BCA outing has been cancelled.

A storm gathers, lightning starts the prairie on fire, the prairie fire burns and starts the coal veins on fire. The coal veins burn for eons into the butte, naturally firing the top of the clay butte resulting in scoria.  Scoria is naturally fired clay resulting from the burning coal vein.  Today at Prairie Fire Pottery they fire clay to 2400° with flame in a brick kiln.  Come experience this awesome heat with BCA.

Plans change. New and often better ideas emerge.

The September outing has been changed to a visit to Prairie Fire Pottery in Beach, ND, where hostess and board member Tama Smith will have fired up the kiln for her BCA visitors! Learn more about Prairie Fire Pottery at https://www.prairiefirepottery.com/

On Saturday, Sept. 14th, join the group at Buffalo Gap Campground (USFS campground just west of Medora, Exit 18, well signed) by 1 p.m. (Mountain time). We will caravan in cars to the top of Sentinel Butte, departing 1:30 p.m. Board member Connie Triplett will lead this portion of the outing. After butte-top gazing and conversation, the group will continue to Beach for cold drinks (provided by BCA) and a hot kiln!

Saturday night camping at Buffalo Gap (or other area campgrounds) is on your own at the conclusion of the kiln visit, but likely camaraderie and more fire-heat around the Buffalo Gap campfire is not to be missed prior to departure later Saturday or Sunday morning. The USFS Buffalo Gap Campground is located at Exit 18 and is a first come/first serve campground.
